PSS First in Austin to Perform Revolutionary Brain Surgery on Children
February 4th
At birth, Aahlaya suffered a stroke that led to the damage of half her brain. From that point forward, she was plagued with over one hundred seizures a day. The seizures were almost unnoticeable to the untrained eye, and medicine was not able to prevent them. Typically, infants are not allowed as surgery candidates until they are older. By that time, the seizures can cause even more damage to the brain. Recently, PSS’s neurosurgeon, Mark Lee, M.D. and his team performed the first of its kind brain surgery on Aahlaya, disconnecting the lobes to end the seizures and give her a chance at a normal life. She is currently at home undergoing a successful recovery. Since surgery, Aahlaya no longer experiences seizures.
