Dr. Freedom Perkins, Jr. received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his internship in pediatrics at UTMB followed by four years on active duty with the USAF. After his military commitment, he returned to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where a second year of pediatrics followed by residency in neurology/child neurology and fellowship in neurophysiology with a focus on epilepsy were completed. Following his training, Dr. Perkins worked as the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis between 2005 and 2012. While in Tennessee, Dr. Perkins was responsible for reinstituting the child neurology residency program and was the program director between 2006 and 2010. His professional interests include Epilepsy, Autism, Magnetoencephalography (MEG); Functional Brain Mapping; Brain Development and Develo pmental Disorders. Dr. Perkins is a naturalized Texan and mostly grew up in San Antonio. He, along with his wife Silvia and daughter, Sophie are thrilled to be returning to Texas.
